Perhaps, you already know the recent Aurora shooting or the "Batman Movie Massacre" as some people may call it. To summarize, 12 people were killed and 58 others were injured during the midnight premiere of the movie "The Dark Knight Rises" on July 19, 2012 in Aurora, Colorado. The killer was identified as James Holmes, a 24-year old male.According to the article, interestingly, it was suspected that the motivation behind Holmes killing innocent people is because of 9gag. The site is known for attracting young people in trolling on each other's everyday lives in a positive approach, as related to their, "Just for fun." tagline. Weeks prior to the incident, Holmes made a post in the site on how to plan a murder scene, with other 9gag trolls advising him on using firearms. To everyone's shock, it really happened.
But, is that really true? Apparently, authorities could not find any trace or evidence from 9gag, meaning it's all a rumor! A hoax!
In my point of view, this gives us the realization that anything can happen in this world. The function of trolling is simply for online "lols"; it's a very whole different case when it comes to real life issues. I guess this kind of glues the link between real life (or first life) and virtual life 9second life). Anyway, whatever you may think of it, this is an example of its possible dangers; in fact, a very rare one.
My advice? Troll responsibly.
